The Witcher read-along 2021

I’m putting the feelers out there for a Witcher read-along in the coming year. I mean, I only need one person and I’ll go ahead with it, but if there’s more interest I can go ahead and make it more of a proper event.

What is the Witcher series?

There are 8 books in this series (read-along would be May-December) most of which aren’t particularly long, so you wouldn’t be mentally preparing for a slog each month. It follows Geralt of Rivia, a monster slayer – written by Andrzej Sapkowski and inspiring an insanely popular and awesome video game series from CD Projekt Red and TV series on Netflix (season two coming soon-ish).

It features:

  • A medieval Polish setting
  • Monsters galore
  • Tongue in cheek humour
  • Badass action
  • Strong male and female characters
  • A vibrant and exciting high fantasy world
  • A look at morality and whether humans are in fact the worst monsters
  • A rich storytelling experience

I’ve read books 1 and 2 (The Last Wish & Sword of Destiny) both of which are a collection of short stories and the books we will be reading for May and June if this goes ahead – they are almost novella length so a nice easy start. It would follow on directly from my Monster Week event, which I think would lead nicely into this read-along!

That’s basically it! If there’s interest, there’ll be more posts coming up (or this one will be updated). Let me know what you think!!

  1. I’d be up for joining a Witcher readalong. With work and school, I don’t have a ton of time for pleasure reading, but if we’re doing a book a month, I can swing that. I wanted to read them this year and didn’t get a chance to. So definitely keep me in mind if you decide to do this!

  2. Oh interesting, I might have to join! For some reason I stoppped after Blood of Elves, even though I was really enjoying it!

  3. Reckon I might get involved with this. One book a month is hardly a big commitment! Plus I have been meaning to restart the series as I have only read the first two short story collections.

  4. I’d be interested! I’ve been so curious about this series for a while but haven’t gotten to reading them yet. In the meantime I’ve just been working on completing other series that I started! 🙂
